II International Opera Singers Competition of Galina Vishnevskaya

The International Opera Singers Competition of Galina Vishnevskaya is established in the honor of the jubilee of the world-known singer - People’s Artiste of the USSR, the owner of numerous international awards and premiums.
Galina Vishnevskaya’s whole life has been dedicated to the stage: during decades she was brilliant in the most famous theatres all over the world, she performed the leading parts in numerous premieres, the greatest composers of the 20th century created music specially for her - the outstanding artiste with the unique gift of singing.
The richest creative experience, the unique knowledge of the nature of human voice and the artistic mastery induce Galina Vishnevskaya to leading an active teaching and enlightening life. She is the Chairperson of the Young Singers Fair in Ekaterinburg; in 2002 with the support of Moscow Government, the Centre of Opera Singing under the direction of Galina Vishnevskaya was opened; there graduates from music universities of Russia and of the rest of the world have an opportunity to continue their education and act the real opera stage.
According to Galina Vishnevskaya, in Moscow there has long existed a necessity to establish a special international competition that would give a young singer a chance to declare himself/herself on the world stage. Such should become The International Opera Singers Competition of Galina Vishnevskaya, whose unique personality and the highest authority, doubtlessly, are the pledge of the high professional level of the competition and its special status in the world music sphere.
In October 2006 I International Opera Singers Competition of Galina Vishnevskaya took place in Moscow that aroused a considerable international response. The Jury of the competition consisted of the stars of the world operatic stage, prominent cultural workers; young singers from Russia and abroad became laureates and diploma-winners. The rounds of the competition were held in Galina Vishnevskaya’s Opera Centre and the solemn award-giving ceremony and the Gala concert of the winners took place in Moscow International House of Music.
Since now the International Opera Singers Competition of Galina Vishnevskaya will be held in Moscow once in two years. II Competition will be in April - May 2008.
